Alkoomi, from local Frankland River Aboriginal dialect means ‘the place we chose’ - the Alkoomi Wines vineyard site was expertly chosen and produces great wines like this one.
In the glass: Dense red purple.
On the nose: Strong black cherry with hints of regional herb.
On the palate: Very solid palate with super-ripe black fruits and immense tannin support. Everything about this wine is rich and firm – a keeper.
“Alkoomi (owned by the Hallet family and made by chief winemaker Andrew Cherry) is well known for their stellar success at wine shows across the country, and this wine flies the flag for both cabernet and it’s regional expression in Frankland River. It has all the structure and fruit you could possibly hope for, with good length of flavour to boot. From the wonderful 2018 vintage. Dark cherry, blackberry pie, salted liquorice, the crackle of ozone, star anise, aniseed, fennel – this has concentration in spades. Incredible acidity and freshness – that aniseed/fennel character weaves its way in and out of the fruit. Energy and structure. Very good length. Pristine fruit.
